Title: Daybreak
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo
Rating: R
Spoilers: All
Quote assigned: "I am invincible as long as I'm alive." (John Mayer)
Summary: Tony and Gibbs on the beach. A very loose sequel to Breaking Point.
Daybreak by Audra Rose
At first Gibbs had missed watching the sun set over the ocean.
He remembers this as he sits alone on the beach, shivering a little in the pre-dawn darkness. When he’d first taken this job he’d left a different coast and a different life behind, almost without thought, but he’d still missed being able to watch a sunset over the waves. Now he is almost surprised to realize that he prefers dawn, and wonders when that happened.
“You’re up early.”
Tony’s voice is still rough with sleep and Gibbs feels the corner of his mouth turn up, but resists the urge to look back. He pictures Tony as he’d left him, minutes ago -- a warm sprawl of tan skin and sleep-ruffled hair, dark lashes and kiss-bruised lips. He’d spent most of the last hour watching Tony sleep, and figures he can wait a few more minutes now.
“Couldn’t sleep.” His own voice sounds harsh and long unused, nothing like the way he’d sounded last night when he’d whispered devotion against Tony’s skin.
“I missed you.”
At that Gibbs gives up and looks back to where Tony is standing behind him, a shadow in soft jeans and a softer white shirt, feet bare as he stares at the water.
“I didn’t want to wake you.”
For that he gets a smile, a quick flash of white that almost matches the ones he remembers from before the envelope, before the crack of a rifle on a rooftop just weeks before.
With easy grace Tony drops to the sand behind him and immediately Gibbs is surrounded by warmth, so sudden and consuming that he has to close his eyes against the power of it. For a minute he just lets himself sink into the pure physical indulgence of Tony’s long legs stretched snug against his own, of strong arms encircling his waist and hard muscle against his back; the scratch of morning stubble against his neck as Tony nuzzles close.
It’s been three weeks and it still amazes Gibbs how powerless he becomes in the face of Tony’s easy affection. It’s as if someone else is controlling his body, making him lean his head back against Tony’s shoulder to bare his neck to Tony’s mouth and moan when Tony finds the soft place beneath his ear. He can’t stop himself from curving his arms around the strong muscles of Tony’s legs, running his fingers up the long lines of Tony’s thighs just to feel him shudder.
“The sun’s coming up,” Gibbs whispers, brushing his lips over Tony’s temple.
Tony’s answer is barely audible, just a soft murmur into the join of Gibbs neck and shoulder, punctuated by the soft press of teeth.
“Is that all?” Tony asks, his voice wry, pushing suggestively against the base of Gibbs’ spine. Now it’s Gibbs’ turn to shudder at the firm heat pressed close. Tony’s hands are doing distracting, delicious things to the skin beneath Gibbs’ shirt.
“You might want to look up, DiNozzo,” he mutters, amazed he can summon any kind of response at all. “Sunrise. Grandeur. Awe. All that.”
“Can’t waste time,” Tony murmurs, licking a path up the back of Gibbs’ neck. “We have to go back today.”
And this is it, the perfect time for Gibbs to tell Tony that they will have to leave this, have to leave them here by the water. Gibbs has done this before, and briefly wonders why all his heartbreaks seem to happen on beaches. All the reasons why they won’t be able to keep what they've found spin through his mind; he can see careers and lives in ruins around them.
“I won’t give you up,” he says instead, and feels time stop.
Tony stills behind him for the space of a breath before he drops his forehead to Gibbs’ shoulder and tightens his arms briefly, fiercely.
“I wouldn’t let you,” Tony whispers, his voice uneven. Gibbs thinks they might sit there forever, frozen, but the sun breaks up the moment. Sudden warmth and light touches them, and the world has color again.
“See, DiNozzo?” Gibbs says, trying to keep the ridiculous smile from his face. “What did I tell you? Grandeur. Awe.”
Tony nips at Gibbs jaw and moves his hands in one slow slide down Gibbs’ body to cup him hard. He grins into Gibbs’ neck when Gibbs bites out a moan.
“Amazing. Spectacular. Come to bed with me,” he says.
At that Gibbs has to reach back and turn Tony’s head toward him to kiss the grin away, a touch so hungry and demanding it leaves Tony gasping. He stands before Tony can pull him down onto the sand and then reaches down to drag Tony to his feet and into his arms.
“The sun’s up, DiNozzo,” Gibbs says against Tony’s lips. “We’re burning daylight, here.”
Tony’s smile is bright and his and warms Gibbs all the way through to places he’d forgotten.
“We shouldn’t waste any more time, then,” Tony answers, and pulls Gibbs back toward the house.

Delicious and dreamy. I can see the two of them in that golden light. *sigh*

That is a gorgeous image! It's like the beach picture redone with Gibbs and his one true, forever love. *bg* (I am sappy! :)
Beautiful. As always.

It's the SV sap virus. It just removes all the angst and replaces it with happy, cuddly boys. (ack. Gag me. *g*)
I'm glad you liked it - thanks! *hugs*

Oh! I just... Wow. He knows he's "supposed" to let Tony go but he can't. And then Tony telling him he wouldn't let him... So much emotion in so very few words!
*sighs happily and rereads*

Also rumpled DiNozzo is way hot. I could so see this happening, the sunset and the beach and them making love in the sunlight. Yum.
Very nice. I loved all four pieces indeed. *wibble*
