FIClet: Rules (NCIS)

Birthday fic for Rebecca ([livejournal.com profile] blueraccoon), a few days early, because I fangirl her, and when I grow up I want to write sex scenes like she does. (Which should be soon, I'm hoping, b/c I’m pretty sure I’m like, at least ten years older than she is.) In any case, this is sort of a companion piece to Secrets. No sex, but this is definitely a pre-slash pit stop on the way to the eventual collision. *g* So becca, happy happy, and I hope you have a wonderful day, sweetie. *hugs*

It’s one of his rules - Tony doesn’t fall for straight guys. Not since the first one, anyway, back in college. The fascination was brief, and only lasted long enough for him to figure out that there was no point in breaking his heart over the ones he couldn’t have when there were so many others who wanted to have him.

Tony can’t remember a time when people didn’t turn to look, men and women both. While everyone else at his prep-school was being pummeled by adolescence, he was simply kissed on the forehead and sent on his way from pretty child to pretty man, with all the awkwardness ending up on the inside. Tony might never be sure if people like him, but he knows they like looking at him, and that makes part of it easy. Because at least something should be easy. Every once in awhile.

So since Tony never falls for straight guys, it has to be something else with Gibbs. Maybe the need for approval. Or attention. Or affection or acceptance or something – but Tony has a feeling that he could work his way through the dictionary and it still wouldn’t explain why he can get hard just watching Gibbs walk into a room. And it’s more than just imagining what it would feel like to have Gibbs’ hands on him and wanting to know what Gibbs’ skin tastes like – Tony can sense a connection between them that has him reminding himself over and over why he made the rule in the first place.

That connection makes him weaken, and when Gibbs breaks into the dark place Jonathan’s words have sent him, it makes Tony want to say fuck the rules. It makes Tony want to tell Gibbs that this case has made him cold inside and afraid of the dark in a way he hasn’t been in a very, very long time.

But Tony doesn’t fall for straight guys. He smiles instead, and waits for Gibbs to walk away.

End

Okay, now I have to put Jethro and Tony away for awhile, b/c I left Jim tied to the bed in [livejournal.com profile] sen_thurs and I've got some serious first time J/B angst going on in Lorraine's as-of-yet unnamed monster. So many smut-muses, so little time. *BG*

He just goes for the many people who want him, and if they happen to be mostly women, so be it.

That's the way I see him, anyway. *bg* Tony is exceptionally beautiful (even by Hollywood standards *g*), and I imagine he simply accepts this fact about himself. If he feels he's had to work hard at other things in his life (I just love the idea of Tony childhood angst, I can't help it *eg*) in the relationship department he takes what comes to him easily.

I also think that Tony's looks explain why he acts the clown - he needs to make himself seem accessible, to counteract people's assumptions that he is arrogant or out of reach.

if Gibbs would get over his issue and make the first step...

It's going to have to be Gibbs - Tony will never make the first move - there are far too many consequences for him to take the chance. And of course it's far too late for Gibbs where Tony is concerned. He won't be able to help himself, soon - but they will have to reach a watershed moment, some point-of-no-return before it happens. I'm trying to figure out what that is. *bg*
