In the end Sammy's love and Sam's power saved his brother, and Dean's love and Dean's power saved HIS brother for whatever tomorrow brings them.

Dean wound up a monster because of Sam's miscalculation, but his only thought was not to hurt anyone, SO Dean a worldview.
He ran rather than take the chance of hurting Sam, he ran again until Sam would have caught up with the coven and suffered the consequences of another miscalculation.

The Power of not-Sam was there, though, enough to best a sire and keep his brother "alive" through love.

One of the advantages to being new to a fandom is that so many WIP's have reached their conclusion. I would have hated to have to wait a full year for this one, though it was worth it.

And yes, we know Dean will eventually turn Sam, he must ultimately do so to keep them together, but it will most likely be on Sam's terms and his chosen time -- Dean is still the loving older brother even after all this.

Woe betide Sam if he had managed to damage Metallicar, though...

But they're together and finding their happiness and they WILL yet work out an acceptable mean.

Dean is now a vampire -- and one not beholden or bound to a sire. Sam freed him with an unknowable power. Dean's quantifiable, but exactly WHAT is Sammy of the dark weirdness behind his loving eyes? The answer may be much more frightening than any vampire; however, each loves and trusts the other with his life and that trust is not misplaced.

It was an acceptable end to their saga because it promises nothing less than a new beginning for two men who already take the impossible into their stride and will never let the other go.
