Still not great, but better than last week!

WIPs currently active: 5

Words written this week: 3,259

WIPs that got no words this week: 0

WIPs that did get words this week:

Codename: Aluminum Bastard (aka broken dick epic): 104, still inching along. I probably just need to hit a scene break soon, but then I’m going to have to figure out what happens next, so…?

Born in the Blood: 821, and it is distinctly possible that every one of them is terrible, but I haven’t figured out how to make them less terrible so for now I’m just going with it.

Dragon!Bucky/tribute!Steve and Learning to Be a Good Citizen: 490, including realizing that I needed to insert an entire chapter before where I initially started writing.

All Eternals Deck #2: 598, possibly all getting deleted when I redo the beginning because i figured out that I was doing it wrong…

Slavefic #6: 1,246, DIRELY in need of a POV change. Soon. Yes.

Disney is its own fandom, and OMG there are AMAZING things happening. As I said on tumblr, Disney is about to back trucks up to the parks and shower money on them, because some of our wildest dreams are happening. Including the one I predicted long ago. *g*

cutting to spare those who don't care, but a list of the confirmed changes is behind this cut )

WELL. This is a great day to be a Disney Parks fan. Meanwhile, I have reblogged lots of Infinity War and Star Wars stuff on tumblr, too, as have 1 million others. If you like that stuff but you aren't hanging out there today, you might be missing out just a little. (Unless you're not into squee, capslock and keysmashing; then you're good.)

A couple of days ago I asked, Do You Know This Vid? I got a couple of things wrong -- the little girl's hair is light brown, not blonde -- but [personal profile] fayance kindly pointed me to the correct site and video. Unfortunately, it didn't allow "cross-domain access". Does that mean I have to be a member of Facebook? I'm not.

But, with a title, I could search Youtube, and found it quickly. Mila talks (the title under the other vid-page) took me to a page of this little girl's discussions about life. The specific vid I wanted was Traveling disasters by two year old Mila.

This little girl is obviously bright, very verbal, quite opinionated (but what little kid doesn't have strong opinions? <g>), and extremely expressive; she's a hoot to watch.

There are several others; Cindy and I will watch this afternoon.

Y'know, it occurs to me... this is the kind of child authors are thinking of when they write a kid into fanfic. *waves to Aly* There are children at the high end of the curve, whose mental and verbal expressions seem two or three -- or even more -- years older than their chronological age. Those of us who work more often with "average" children -- or even those striving to reach average -- may forget that such standouts exist. (More than a few times I've conducted a speech test with a child who seems stupendous -- he/she is answering every question, and I'm sure they will hit standard scores of 12's or 13's, but when I score it, they're only reaching 9's and 10's. I've worked with below-average children so long that my perceptions of "average" are skewed.) But, yeah, the above-average kids are among us, and who can fault an author for putting them in a fic, if they want to include a child? After all, most of our heroes, in fic, movies, or TV, are considerably above average; may as well let our OCs -- adult or child -- have something approaching parity with the leading characters. <g>

The men are here fitting the toilet today, so everything is chaos and I've floorboards taken up in the living room. It was supposed to be a two day job, but they think they can get it all done in a day, including the electrics. Of course, they've got here and decided to run the wiring under the floor and not via the cupboard, which means it didn't have to be touched. But, I'm not too bothered about that as it badly needed sorting out anyway. Plus, new toilet soon! It's going to make so much difference to James, and make his life so much easier.

Kynren was amazing. In fact, Saturday itself was amazing. It was also the Durham Miners Gala, or as it's known locally, Durham Big Meeting. We decided to stop off there on our way to Kynren, and as expected Durham was crammed. We had to park a ten minute walk away, and then the closer we got the more the crowds increased. But oh, what an atmosphere. At one point we were standing listening to a brass band play a version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, and it was so busy, people all around, but all cheerful, and the flags were flapping in the breeze, it was sunny and I just thought how much I'd missed experiences like that, but didn't actually realise that until I was reliving them again.

We had a quick walk along the river front after that, and then drove to Bishop Auckland, where we were still far too early for Kynren to start, so we had a walk around the shops, then checked out the castle gardens. Then finally it was Kynren time.

The show is set in a specially made area deep in the countryside. When you book tickets you're assigned a parking area and then either walk for about ten minutes, get a shuttle bus, or if you have mobility issues get assigned one of the closest car parks, where you can either walk the last bit if able, or if not, golf buggies would drive you down. James was using his wheelchair, so I just pushed him down.

Security was tight with armed police and bag checks, and once you were past those there were various food trucks set up around the tribune -- the area the performance takes part in. We would have eaten there but had bought stuff for a picnic earlier, so just sat in the sunshine and waited for the time we could take our seats.

Everything in the show is done by volunteers, the actors, people selling merch, showing you to your seats, everything. And every single one was so proud and excited about their show. It took us ages to walk the distance from one end of the food area to the other because every volunteer asked if we were looking forward to the show and talked about it.

Finally we could take our seats. The show started at 9:30, and we went in about an hour before. Because James was in his wheelchair we had a front row seat, but because of the strange set out where the wheelchairs users were positioned in-front of their companion, anyone who could transfer just sat on a seat, which is what James did so we were side by side.

We had such a good view. Only a few feet in front of us was the sandy track where the animals ran past. Including geese, cows, sheep, and the most exciting, horses and knights jousting. The show itself was about the history of the north east, with a young boy, Arthur, travelling through time and meeting loads of different people from different eras. There were fights between the Scots and English, complete with fiery arrows being shot and bagpipes with flames coming out of the pipes. A pit disaster, the Bishop of Durham, so much stuff that just went on and on complete with sets appearing out of the lake, and projected onto back lots, and fireworks and so many people fighting and dancing and doing all kinds of things. It was hard to know where to look as you'd look to one side and meanwhile more characters would appear from the other.

The only slight downside was due to it being a night show it got really cold. We'd taken Corey's thick warm cape he had made for a comic con, and shared that, but I was still cold. But even so, I'd go back in an instant.

Some pictures, only a fraction of what we saw, and some not the best quality due to conditions, but still, a nice hint of the show. )

By dint of feeding the woodburner full bore for the last twelve hours, we have convinced the temperature at the top end of the house to rise to 16c/60F. Given that it's currently 4C/39F outside I guess it could be worse.

Bro-in-the-South sent me a nice pic on his cellphone of the white stuff on his street this morning.

Tonight is a good night for a roast meal - lamb, roasted spuds, assorted green veges, mint sauce. Also, I am sending son out for the firewood because what else are strong young men for? Or even weedy young men?

I'm trying to find a video on youtube, for which I do not have a name. Cindy opened it on her facebook page and showed it to me. I'd like to show other people, but on facebook it didn't show a name or a link so I could search. It went thusly:

A little blonde girl is sitting in a big easy chair, describing an experience. Her speech is not always clear; there are captions to help us understand her.

She explains that she was riding on a plane, and the lady in the seat next to her kept talking. "She was a real chatty Cathy." The lady asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. "I don't know; I'm only two!" The girl wished the lady would quit talking. "Then the miracle happened! I pooped in my diaper. After that, nobody talked to me anymore."

Those quotes may be a word off, but they're pretty close. I've tried searching, but the terms are too broad to find it. Has anyone heard of this or seen it and can toss me a link? I'd love to bookmark it.

I wanted to read this story, but it didn't exist, so I wrote 8,600 words of it. And then I rewrote it so it was Homecoming-compliant. And now here we are, in the handbasket.

100-Point Restoration (8691 words) by Destina
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Captain America (Movies), Iron Man (Movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Peter Parker/Tony Stark
Characters: Peter Parker, Tony Stark, James Rhodes, Ned Leeds, May Parker (Spider-Man), Jarvis (Iron Man movies), Karen (Spider-Man: Homecoming)
Additional Tags: First Kiss, Future Fic, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Hurt/Comfort
Summary:

Tony needs a happiness upgrade; Peter wants Tony. These goals might be compatible. (This story is set roughly five years post-Homecoming.)

What are the odds that I'd write two MCU stories and they'd both be (different) rare pairs?? Or that the unfinished third one will be, too?

(I missed a week there but I also missed a week or more of writing, with all the things finished and going out into the world, so we’ll call it a wash and start fresh, huh?)

WIPs currently active: 6, because I started altogether too many new things while trying to coax myself back into action after more than a week just not writing at all. (It’s a lot for me! It was unsettling!)

Words written this week: 2,280

WIPs that got no words this week: 0

WIPs that did get words this week:

Codename: Aluminum Bastard (aka broken dick epic): 133. This sure is a story in which stuff is happening. I should probably… reread the last couple chapters and try to remember where the fuck I was going with this in the previous geological era when I last worked on it.

Born in the Blood: 389, and hooboy I hope you did not want a lot of detail about [significant lifetime event taking place in this chapter] because the whole thing happened inside those 389 words.

Less-Sad Sequel to “Ring the Bell Backward”: 567, and struggling not to feel like, spiritually jossed by Spider-Man: Homecoming even though this story obviously occupies a fairly drastic alternate universe from canon.

Dragon!Bucky/tribute!Steve and Learning to Be a Good Citizen: 133, haha oh look I started a sequel how did that happen??

All Eternals Deck #2: 308, oh hey look I finally figured out how to start the next Bucky/Bruce story, too! :D

Slavefic #6 (Steve Learns Some Stuff about Sex): 555, picking up literally about three minutes after the end of The Sacrifice Play. :D
